Meet The Coaches
Chris O'Dougherty - Boys Varsity Co-Head Coach
Jason Montoya - Boys Varsity Co-Head Coach
Kyle Decker - Boys Varsity Assistant Coach, Boys 7/8 Cardinal Head Coach
Lena Hanson - Girls Varsity Head Coach
Lena's involvement in our local lacrosse community spans 2 decades. She began her lacrosse coaching career at the 7/8 level when Lake Samm Lacrosse Club was still the Eastside Eagles. She moved on to become the first Lake Samm high school coach and was instrumental in growing the high school program. After taking time off when she had her second daughter, Lena returned to Lake Samm for a few years before moving on to begin coaching her own daughters in their youth sports. Now that her girls are getting older, she is excited to be back coaching high school and helping develop the Eastlake Girls Lacrosse program! For Lena, coaching is about teaching life skills through sports, and she feels most accomplished when seeing the growth in her players' maturity as an individual and as a teammate.
In addition to coaching, Lena teaches part time in the Wellness Department at Eastlake High School. She has lived and taught in this community for 17 years with her husband (also an EHS teacher) and 2 daughters. When not coaching, teaching, or spending time with her family, Lena can be found trail running, playing soccer, reading, and hiking.

He is originally from upstate NY and played midfield for Section II perennial top team Shaker High School. Go Blue Bison! He played collegiately at SUNY Oswego where he led his team to a top 20 ranking and was named the team's Offensive MVP his senior year. He also had amazing flow in his youth.
Grace Hamilton - Girls HS Goalie Coach, V/JV Assistant Coach
Grace returns to Eastlake as a proud alumna and former goalie for Lake Sammamish Lacrosse Club. As a two-time varsity captain and All-State goalie, Grace helped take Lake Sammamish to its first division one State Championship appearance in 2012. After high school, she stayed involved with the Washington lacrosse community as an assistant for VAND'AL Lacrosse's summer teams.
A former player under Coach Hanson at Lake Sammamish, Grace believes in developing players as leaders on and off the field, and is excited to do so in the community and high school where she grew up.
Grace graduated from American University with a degree in PR & Strategic Communications, a minor in Education Studies, and a certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies. She went on to work in politics during the 2016 presidential election in Ohio, and later worked in communications at a hypergrowth tech startup in New York City. Grace returned to the Sammamish area last year to be closer to family and better skiing and now works as a marketing communications consultant for tech companies and non-profits. When she's not on the lacrosse field, you can find her on the slopes, in the rock-climbing gym, or cheering on her younger sister at a dance competition.
Barrett Janness - Boys JV Assistant Coach
Megan Novak - Girls JV Head Coach
Megan (Coach Megz) played basketball for a majority of her youth and then went on to play lacrosse at Western Washington University. After dedicating a significant portion of her life to playing the sports she loved, she made the switch and found a passion in coaching. She has coached lacrosse, basketball and volleyball at both the youth and high school level. She has spent nearly a decade in the gym as a member of the Lady Wolves Basketball Family and is excited to also have the privilege to be part of the Eastlake Lacrosse community and help grow the girls program.
When not coaching or working in technology, Megz loves to spend time with her husband (aka Coach Novak), daughter and pitbull. If there's any time left over she can be found running, baking or watching a Disney movie.
Olivia McCarey - Girls JV Assistant Coach
Olivia McCarey started playing lacrosse in fifth grade for the Eastside Eagles program and continued to play through the Lake Samm program in high school. As well as playing in the spring she also played on the Vand'al lacrosse club Green Team since her freshman year of high school, traveling to other states in the off season to play lacrosse. Her senior year she was one of the captains leading the team as well as winning an All-Conference award for defense. She has always had a passion for teaching and guiding younger girls, always aspiring to eventually become a coach and hopefully a teacher in the future. Currently she has been working with the Vand'al Next Level middle school team as an assistant coach.
Olivia is an Eastlake alumni, graduating in 2019, and continuing her education at Bellevue College to finish her Associates Arts and Science degree and transfer to University of Washington fall 2020. When she isn't focused on lacrosse or school, Olivia works as a barista at Starbucks as well as helping out at her dad's bakery.
